City of Burlington Community Development Department is hiring a Fire Inspector I or Fire Inspector II position (dependent on experience level). $34.29 - $48.72 hourly; FLSA non-exempt position. BENEFITS: Prorated accrued vacation and sick leave; holiday pay, and Washington State PERS retirement. Under the supervision of the Fire Marshal the Fire Inspector is responsible for inspecting buildings as required by the International Fire Code and City fire codes. The Fire Inspector works directly with architects, attorneys, fire service personnel, contractors, and the general public regarding laws, rules, regulations, and City policy relating to fire safety. The Fire Inspector must maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, City staff, citizens, and other organizations and agencies. Fire Inspector I and Fire Inspector II job classifications vary on education and/or experience levels or a combination of both. The job title assigned will be at the discretion of the City of Burlington after evaluating the selected candidate’s qualifications. Qualifications ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: • Conducts inspections of schools, hotels, motels, commercial businesses, and public buildings for compliance with the International Fire Code. • Assists in the coordination of fire plan review for consistency with adopted codes. • Assists in the administration and enforcement of the International Fire Code on a city-wide basis, including issuance of fireworks permits. • Assists in the enforcement of requirements for fire flow and the proper placement of fire hydrants in compliance with International Fire Codes and City codes. • Assists in long- and short-term planning on issues related to fire and life safety. • Assists in implementation of life safety inspection programs in existing buildings.
