The jobholder serves as the Telecommunicator to the police officers in the Campus Police Department. As the department dispatcher and call taker assigned for first or second shift. The jobholder also provides customer service to students, faculty/staff and the general public both in person and by phone. This position serves as backup for the Administrative Assistant position for administrative support for officers and the public as needed. The jobholder must also work effectively with the all areas of the college and employees of the Campus Police Department

- Prioritizes calls according to policy and procedure based on the nature of the call and dispatches officers to calls for service or assistance.
- Provides appropriate and effective communication and administrative support for field officers.
- Prepares and disseminates weekend duty officers’ reminder sheet.
- Operates the Division of Criminal Information (DC) terminal, maintains working knowledge of DCI terminal and its capabilities, and maintains appropriate logs for files.
- Utilizes the NCAWARE system for criminal investigations.
- Initiates responses to alarms upon notification by alarm company.
- Maintains computerized student and faculty/staff vehicle parking registration.
- Maintains confidentiality concerning investigations being conducted by the Campus Police Department.
- Accesses, reviews, collates, copies, and archives video footage from exterior and interior campus security cameras as required in support of criminal investigations or other police operations.
- This position is responsible for data collection and input for various reports and logs, i.e. Cleary and Crime statistics, as assigned.
- Maintains police records and files to include entry of information into college system and the Police Records Management System.
- Maintains case files and other administrative file storage.
- Provides direction and information to users of Campus Police Services
- Maintains daily unit activity and incident log.
- Demonstrates and models the College’s employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility and teamwork
- Perform all duties assigned by supervisor.
- This position must be able to accurately understand requests for services in normal or emergency situations and communicate the needs to officers quickly and accurately.
- There are many regulatory standards for the Division of Criminal Information access use, this position is held responsible for maintaining the standards when using DCI access for Campus Police business. |
- This position is the lead for the Police Records Management System and must assist officers and other users in the use of the system.
- Daily: Patrol Officers re: requests for information, dispatch and updates, discussions
- Daily: Corporals re: requests for information, dispatch and updates
- Daily: Chief of Campus Police re: reports, updates, status of issues in progress
- Daily: students, faculty and staff re: assistance with permits, ID’s, key distribution, parking issues.
A high school diploma or equivalent is required
Associate Degree in a related area with considerable relevant experience is preferred
- 3 years of experience working as front-line administrative support or call center operator
- Excellent computer skills in word processing and spreadsheets with the willingness to increase these skills
- Ability to use phone system, calculator and two-way radio
- Must be DCI certified or able to be certified as a DCI operator
- Must be NCAWARE certified or able to be certified as an NCAWARE operator
- Experience with Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems as a call intake or call dispatching operator, i.e. 911 Center operator
- Experience in proper protocol for Police radio communication, i.e. 10-code knowledge, experience with police radio systems
- Strong communication skills, problem solving ability, and the ability to work well with students, faculty, staff and the general public
- Ability to represent the Campus Police Department in a professional and dignified manner.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in routine and emergency situations
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and during emergencies
- Ability to make sound independent decisions.
- Ability to work as a team member.
- Ability to exercise mature judgement in emergency situations and related activities.
- Ability to see, hear and speak is required to communicate with students, faculty, staff and the general public.
- Mobility necessary to accomplish assigned tasks.
- Ability to physically operate and handle departmental equipment to include copier, computers, calculator, etc.
- Ability to work with a minimum of supervision
- Good organizational skills.
- Ability to deal well with students, faculty, staff and the public in a college environment
- Ability to manage time, prioritize work and meet deadlines
- Ability to communicate well, both orally and in writing.
- Thorough knowledge of college rules, regulations and directives.
- Thorough knowledge of departmental directives.
Upon employment, must complete the following college training matrix but not limited to: Automatic Electronic Defibrillator/CPR; Bloodborne Pathogens; Chemical Safety (HazCom/HazMat); Emergency Equipment; First Aid; Personal Protective Equipment; Reporting Requirements; Anti-Harassment; Personal Information Protection Training; and National Incident Management Systems
