The Chemistry Department has 8 classified staff, 25 tenure-track faculty, and 9 instructional faculty. We serve about 300 undergraduate majors and over 20 graduate students annually, and offer a variety of degrees in Biochemistry or Chemistry (M.S., B.S., B.A.), along with a combined B.A. with Education degree. We have a robust research program, vibrant student clubs, and a host of department sponsored events throughout the year.
About the Position
As a Chemistry Department Program Coordinator you will be an integral member of the Chemistry Department Administrative team, responsible for providing curriculum academic advising for majors, minors, and honors students in the Chemistry Department. You will be a first line of contact for internal and external clients and will be critical in supporting our faculty, staff, and students as well as representing Chemistry to the broader community.
In the position you will be expected to communicate professionally and effectively with a variety of constituents in sometimes stressful situations. You must be able to employ excellent organizational skills, be attentive to detail, and prioritize multiple tasks. The Chemistry Department Program Coordinator should have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment. This position works with sensitive and confidential information.
Typical duties include:
General curriculum advising for Chemistry majors, minors, Honors Chemistry students, and students with Chemistry interests
Processing of major and minor declarations
Coordination of quarterly registration processes including issuing overrides according to institutional and departmental policies and procedures.
Presentations of Chemistry department major information to small groups for informational fairs, summer orientation, and major info forums
Reception and clerical support services for faculty, students and staff
Coordination of department sponsored events
Management and distribution of building keys
For purposes of Washington State HR, this position is classified as a Program Coordinator. This is a full time, 12 month position and is primarily in person, on campus.
Required Qualifications
Associate Degree
At least two years of office/clerical experience supporting an academic or specialized program
Education may not substitute for work experience
Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office 365 suite
Demonstrated ability to initiate and implement projects independently and as part of a team
Demonstrated ability to work effectively and graciously with students, faculty, staff, and visitors of diverse backgrounds
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast paced environment
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
Experience working in a setting that requires confidentiality
Prior experience advising in an academic setting
Knowledge of and experience using Banner
Knowledge of and experience using Degree Works
Knowledge of and experience using Western Marketplace
Knowledge of and experience using Concur
Knowledge of and experience using Drupal, WordPress, or similar software to create, maintain, and update webpages

Salary $3,370 - $4,398/month depending on qualifications and experience
